How to Stand Tall and Shine as Film Professionals. This year’s exciting focal point of the festival, which celebrates its tenth anniversary and so demonstrates that dedication to the development of cinematic art is more than just a beginner’s phase, includes the strengthening of abilities for all types of film professionals. As an independent expert programme, the already seventh PROFeKK provides content that thoroughly delves into the theories and techniques of short film. On its first day at Trubar Literature House, it brings artistic film knowledge from renowned screenwriting and editing gurus. The second day focusses on practical aspects, more specifically, on how to survive in the world of film. It discusses distribution and the many jobs in the film industry. In addition, PROFeKK will also organise longer workshops for film critics, documentarians, animators, and screenwriters.
The ninth screenwriting workshop Kratka scena is now in its third module (after the workstation at the International Film Festival Kino Otok—Isola Cinema), with Christian Gamst Miller-Harris serving as a guest mentor. In an open discussion, the English-Danish screenwriter with over a decade of experience will discuss the particularities of writing short and feature films.
How essential the film editing is when creating a short film will be revealed at a masterclass by the Romanian film editor Cătălin Cristuțiu, a long-term close co-worker of one of the most discussed contemporary directors, Radu Jude, who edited the majority of Jude’s films. This opportunity for an in-depth analysis comes combined with a selection of two sections of Radu Jude’s short films.
The second day dispenses with the tips and experiences of several people from the film industry. The short film distribution will be presented by distributor Ben Vanderdaele of Belgian Radiator Sales, Anne Gaschütz, director of FILMFEST Dresden, and Damir Grbanović, co-creator of one of the most successful Slovenian short animated films, who also handled its distribution.
What’s more, our multidisciplinary guests, the Italian critic Leonardo Goi, the Portuguese video essayist Luís Azevedo, and the Slovenian filmmaker Varja Močnik, will provocatively examine the widespread practices of several professionals in film and beyond, including why and how to navigate multiple work fields at once, how to manage in times of precarious work, and how to (co)create a future of better working conditions.
All events will take place as moderated discussions with film professionals, followed by an audience Q&A.
