The #vrednoogleda Workshop

Today’s film and audio-visual production is massive and dispersed across numerous platforms. Technological accessibility and social media make it possible for collectives and people who couldn’t tell stories through film to become its creators. However, it also seems that cinema screens are less accessible than they were. Film curators are faced with old and new dilemmas, such as the prevalence of financial interest, the machinations of invisible algorithms, political polarisation, shortening of viewers’ attention span, displacement of classical film criticism from media and re-examination of film canon. When creating the #vrednoogleda workshop, we maintain no illusion of knowing all the answers. But after watching several short films at FeKK, meeting different curators, and holding debates, we will look for them together, both theoretically and practically, since we’ll also compile a curated film programme or two.

Workshop participants will be mentored by Žiga Brdnik (the Minoriti Open-Air Cinema, the Feminist Film Festival FeFi, the Shots Film Festival, and the Poklon viziji Festival) and his colleagues to thoroughly acquaint them with curating challenges and film programme organisation. The purpose of this workshop is not theoretical knowledge of cinema but practical experience (from securing suitable locations to funding). After completing the programme, you will be able to help shape the Student Cinema Club at the Ljubljana Faculty of Social Sciences for the upcoming school year.

We warmly encourage all high school and faculty students who enjoy approaching film critically and are interested in developing film programmes, film nights, festivals, and cinema clubs to attend the workshop. Everyone is welcome to apply, providing you’re interested in gaining knowledge, contacts, and new cinema buddies.

Organiser: Student Film Club in association with the FeKK Ljubljana Short Film Festival, the FIPRESCI Slovenian Federation of Film Critics, Društvo Kult.co, and with the aid of the Faculty of Social Sciences.
