Spaces of evasion

The short film programme Spaces of Evasion, created in cooperation with the International Feminist and Queer Festival Red Dawns, enters darkness as a space in which we liberate ourselves from obeying the gaze. Darkness is the rejection of objectification and control rather than the absence of light. It is a strategy rather than an emptiness. Instead of a hiding place, it is a stage on which the queer body, desire, memory, and community evade the regimes that wish to identify, name, control, abuse or erase them.

Five people wearing long light-colored hooded robes stand inside the ruins of a stone building. Sunlight shines over the broken wall in the background, illuminating the open space enclosed by the aged structure.

Ecstasy

Carolina Costa, Mexico, fiction, experimental, 2023, 8'

A black-and-white photograph shows a person lying down and looking toward the camera. Irregular stains and cracks cover the image, partially obscuring the face and giving the photograph the appearance of a damaged print.

Paris Model

Brittney Appleby, Canada, experimental, 2021, 6'

A person stands in a studio wearing a white garment with a long veil and an ornate headpiece that covers the face. The figure poses against a neutral background while the veil extends outward to one side.

Shame

Hadi Moussally, Lebanon, experimental, 2024, 4'
